Debbi Jean "DJ" Stutz

DJ Stutz’s teaching career started in Las Vegas, Nevada where she had endorsements in Special Education and Music. Now, she is an Early Childhood Specialist and fierce children’s rights and education advocate with more than 20 years of teaching experience and a host of other skills, accolades and noteworthy experiences that easily make her an expert regarding raising and educating children as well as the challenges and concerns that come with parenting them. With four biological children, a host of foster children in need of love and support, one adopted child and seventy nieces and nephews, DJ has an immense love for children and a plethora of experience raising them.

DJ has an inherent ability to remain calm under pressure which made her the perfect candidate to serve as a 911 dispatcher for 3+ years. In addition, she spent 16 years as a parenting facilitator for the Clark County Division of Family and Youth Services. She has served on various school PTA’s (Parent Teacher Associations) in numerous positions within the organization including PTA President at the most overcrowded school in the nation. Her PTA experience and accomplishments eventually led to her serving as the Nevada State PTA President as well as having the distinguished honor of serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Parent Teacher Association. DJ was also an inaugural member of their Commission on Diversity and served on the membership, bylaws, and reflections (fine arts) committees.

DJ’s determination and passion for children, their rights, their education, their protection, and active parenting led her to organize and develop a Nevada commission of Latino leaders to improve the involvement of Latino fathers in education. During her time in Nevada, she also served on a myriad of committees and commissions with Nevada LawMakers, testified before several commissions and committees as well traveled with the Governor to speak on education issues within the state. Her dedication and commitment for all things children led her to be named “Citizen of The Month'' in Las Vegas, Nevada in April of 2008.

She has traveled to Washington, DC a handful of times to advocate for child rights and education and even had the privilege of serving in a focus group with Senator Ted Kennedy that addresses the education gap, school choice and school vouchers. And, as a representative of the Southwest region, she functioned as the parent advocate in a national focus group on disseminating resources and information for educators and parents.

DJ’s quest for acquiring knowledge and sharing what she has learned with parents and other educators has afforded her opportunities to attend trainings regarding child predators and protecting children; motivated her to become certified in Baby Care, Nurturing Parents and Families, Back in Control, and Divorced Parenting; and even led her to offering her own workshops and trainings in women’s prisons, homeless shelters, schools, churches, and community centers. She also served as the administrator of two international support groups. The first supported families who had children with Trisomy 18 and 13 (a genetic condition that causes physical growth delays during fetal development) and assisted in co-authoring a book on the subject matter. The second international support group was for families who had children in the newborn intensive care unit.

DJ understands that raising children is rewarding and can be challenging and demanding work at times. Her motto is “life is full of joy and parenting is no exception!” DJ can now be found offering parenting workshops, classes, and coaching sessions… as well as an informative podcast called “Imperfect Heroes – Insights Into Parenting” where she further imparts her knowledge and experience through thoughtful podcast episodes whose subject matter is designed to help you develop the confidence and peace to be a great parent and imperfect hero raising independent, productive, and happy children.
